Body type: Kiyoshi is taller than average and weights 56 kg. He has a lean body, unfit because of lack of training and finds it hard to build muscle but easy to lose fat; he has to exercise on a regular basis (jogging, push up, pulls ups) to be in a good condition. He used to practice parkour with Keima to build up speed, body flexibility, and develop his dynamic vision when he was younger. His posture is slouched and introverted from severe bullying in elementary school.
Appearance: His messy, dirty blonde hair is parted to the side, held with a pair of solid white hair clips so his long bangs don't fall on his face. Pimples easily sprout and he takes good care of eliminating them with facial products and reducing sugary foods, although depression constantly makes him binge eat on them. His prominent cheekbones contribute to his western looks and if he dresses in a more fashionable way, he would attract a lot attention. His looks fall in the bishounen trope with a golden bronze skin color on top of a warm undertone. Kiyoshi wears a pair of blood-red, classic way-frame glasses to pair with his oval face-shape and brown eyes--the outmatching glasses color was chosen on purpose--and a small, silver earring on the left earlobe that holds sentimental value. He always wears an old wristwatch that belonged to his father, the only other piece of jewelry he is willing to use on a daily basis.

Behind his shy and reserved personality lies a chaste love for soccer, the perfect bait to be manipulated with. He can shift from bashful, to cold, to hostile at record speed when poked the wrong way, giving a negative impression and promptly disliked which he doesn't give a fuck. He will only open up to someone through soccer and accepts those who are superior to him in the sport. He's clear and bold with his words, and he will never say something he doesn't believe as truthful. Despite being a loner, when he gets attached, he is quite warm and caring to the point of over-worrying, but ultimately his loved ones are his greatest source of strength and happiness. He is earnest and serious about his responsibilities and dreams--although at times lazy--and will push anyone who is on his way to accomplish the latter.

His parents divorced in his fourth year of elementary school and he was forced to change schools, leaving his friends, life, and his precious little sister. The girl had insisted staying with their father, and their mother--having a soft spot for her--couldn't refuse. In the new school, Kiyoshi was severely bullied because he stuck out from the rest: he had strange blonde hair and western features in Japan's uniform society, and waa overall weird. A year later, the bullying ended thanks to Kirishima Keima, a boy that attended the same school, who promptly intervened when he found out about it, becoming good friends with him. Kiyoshi was saved, and the two were placed in the same class the following year. The boy had introduced him to soccer, a sport Kiyoshi became fond of in a short time. However, an incident occured during a tournament match, causing Kiyoshi to close off his heart and lose faith in humanity. He promised himself he would protect the little innocence he had left, and convinced himself if he kept mingling with others, he would eventually lose it. Nevertheless, he held onto the dream of becoming a professional soccer player, choosing to attend Teikoku Gakuen when a stray soccer player told him it was the best middle school in the country. Passing the entrance test, he received an academic scholarship as the top achiever in his elementary school. However, he failed the tryouts to the soccer team in his first and second year and eventually gave up. That is until the Coach gave him a tentative offer.

Family: He lives with his mother in a small duplex in Setagaya-chou where he attended the rest of his elementary school years. His parents divorced when he was eight, and he left with his mother, his sister staying with his father whom he hasn't seen ever since yet still holds dear. His mother has always been strict and puts most of her attention in his grades.
Friends: He is very close to Kirishima Keima, although their relationship broke off when they became first years. A year later, Keima contacted him and they promised to mend their relationship. In reality, Kiyoshi uses the word friend quite lightly, referring to people he acts naturally around but holds at a distance. The only people who can be genuinely be called friends are those he is capable of falling in love with because it is to them who he opens his heart to.

Likes: A hopeless romantic that is obsessed with the color red. He melts at the sight of lavish things and takes constant care of his features with facial beauty products, his primary way of pampering himself. Dislikes: Crowds and social groups trigger his flight response, although most of the time he freezes and panics. As consequence, he avoids socialization as much as possible. Strengths: After giving up soccer, he dedicated his time to other activities like software programming and cooking, showing to have a knack in both areas. However, his true strength lies in his body kinesthetic intelligence, essential for every soccer player. He is able to move the way he wants and reacts faster than the average person. Outside of the field, he prefers to think two steps ahead in every situation and savor ideas and plans, although he usually doesn't put them into practice or finds a conclusion to his train of thinking. He manipulates the truth without creating a lie, giving false impressions for his own benefit.
Weaknesses: He will never accept defeat when failing in something he has confidence in, and will blow up when taunted by those he looks down upon and could go as far as physically hurting them. Another reason he avoids groups is because dense crowds make him physically sick and he might have a panic attack. Being an easy prey due to his naivety, Kageyama was able to successfully make him accept to become a spy for Teikoku with a tempting bait he immediately took. He also becomes soft at the mention of romance, twisting his character to a more feminine, curious side rarely witnessed.
Fatal Flaw(s): Kiyoshi has two major flaws, being apathetic and honest. He is indifferent towards others, in particular people his age by being rude, ignoring them, and giving clear signals he doesn't want to be near anyone, causing him to become isolated and disliked at school. Nevertheless, he wouldn't lie to others due to his philosophy of remaining honest to himself, so instead, he manipulates the truth for his own advantage and speaks his mind without reservations. Because he also doesn't want to lie to himself under any circumstance, he constantly reminds himself of his flaws and terrible personality. As consequence, he hates himself and constantly wants to die, yet he is unable to let go of his philosophy due to the despair of losing the only things he has left, his purity.
Philosophy: Upholding Christian beliefs, he protects his purity as a lifeline. He believes if he remains pure until his death, he will be able to see God and ask him why he allowed tragedy to befall him continuously, causing him to break down psychologically and emotionally. Because as people grow up and become part of social groups, they are forced to lie to themselves and others, thus losing their innocence; so he rejects everyone who approaches him and refuses to act like an adult despite shouldering more responsibilities than people his age. The only exceptions are when a person is useful to him, in which he would lower his guard and do an effort to socialize. But peeking from behind his pure white heart is a lonely monster who won't let go of whoever accepts it.

Insecurities: He is deeply insecure about his appearance and personality, though he has accepted his good looks and obsessively takes care of his face; in his eyes, all he can do is take from people and hurt those he loves, hating himself to the point he believes committing suicide is the best way to help the people he cares about. Despite what he says, he only cares about those who love him first and keeps them around to feed off their love and affection for the red oni so he doesn't suffer from it. Soccer style: When he gets serious, he is hostile and bold, using reckless and dangerous plays to win. He forgets about the concept of friend and foe and sees everyone as his enemies when he loses focus, sometimes going as far as injuring them. He excels in speed, dribbling, and ball control. He would make a decent winger if the coach at his elementary school had found a way to make his abilities bloom in the field. His kinetic vision allows him to follow the ball with the sharpest and fastest movements. However, when he faces more than two opponents, his performance lowers, and its easier to steal the ball and keep a mark on, otherwise he would just burst through his mark.
Strengths: As a soccer player, and like the rest of his elementary school team, agility is one of his top strengths. Dynamic vision and body kinesthetic intelligence boost his ability to move the ball and his body just the way he wants, making it seem as if he had natural talent. In Setagaya Elementary, his role was to clear off and steal back the ball then pass it to start a counterattack. However, his real strength lies in dribbling and ball control, not staying in one place. As a (defensive) midfielder (zone defense), he a lot of guts and can serve as the center, for he will not let anyone he faces pass him.
Weaknesses: As a soccer player, his violent soccer style reflects the red oni who boosts his physical strength, the price being forgetting his own well-being and others, friend or foe, and using reckless and dangerous plays. Against the opponent, numbers and greater height limit his plays with ease. He also lacks adaptability, and his thinking freezes when placed in another position from zone defense, the very center of the field. Finally, his asocial nature prevents him from tuning with the rest of the team, being the main cause of the harmony in their team plays.

Other Notable Personality Features: When his depression takes the best of him, he won't listen to anyone else's opinion, repeating to himself he is worthless and other negative self-talk. His vision narrows and his heart aches, including other symptoms of major depression. His social anxiety stands out when he finds himself in a crowd, triggering a panic attack sooner or later. On the other hand, he was raised to be polite towards adults, and is gentle with the elderly he meets, promptly gaining their affection for his usual bashful attitude, similar to a small animal's. Lastly, he prefers to be called by his first name, as being called Ryuugamine reminds him of his cold mother.
Enemies: Arisugawa Chika, the head of the group who bullied him during elementary school and robbed him of his will to live, and Sumire Yuu, the antagonist in the story he debuts whom he is clashing to get a chance to apply for a second-tier team in his school, ultimately to become a professional soccer player.
